Vision In the vision of GDMA, location has been one of the main access points to information since mankind. During centuries the tools to communicate location related information evolved from the drawing on the rock to paper, in-car devices, mobile handsets, internet, etc. The digital map is next to the digital version of a figure or letter a basic tool of communication and therefore crucial for society. There will be an increasing need to digital maps around the world to exchange more information and to give access to personalized information one needs at that particular moment and that particular location. That makes the digital map a critical factor in many communities who all will contribute every day to the improved scope of capabilities and quality of the digital map. GDMA supports this new generation of digital map so people feel more safe, comfortable, pleased and well informed while traveling or at any place they are.
Mission GDMA integrates a network of domestic expertise and quality map data into a uniform and neutral global digital map. Thereby offering a lower market entry and a shorter time-to-market for a wide scope of applications that uses the map as access point of information to serve its people around the planet.
Ultimately, GDMA wants to offer the market a global navigable map database at the highest level available.
At this stage, the mapping companies which have joined the feasibility study to create a global mapping alliance: • AND (map data of Europe) • EMG (map data of Great China) • Orion (map data of Middle East and North Africa)
Subject to a positive result of the feasibility study it is obvious that more regional mapping companies will be involved to speed up the global map coverage.
